Summary
Jar with cover, porcelain, of baluster shape and octagonal section, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China, 1680-1700; decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze polychrome enamels (wucai - famille verte), the sides with eight vertical panels within red lines, painted with scenes of scholars in the garden on a terrace, in mountainous landscapes or on boats on a river, the shoulders with a green and manganese purple fretwork band and the neck with eight horizontal panels of different flowers, base unglazed.

This jar is from a workshop working towards the development of the famille-verte style or independent of it, but if the former may have been made in the 1680s.
