Summary
Oil painting on panel, Madonna and Child with Saint Jerome and Saint Sebastian by Matteo di Giovanni (Sansepolcro c.1430 – Siena 1495). A half-length depiction of the Madonna in Renaissance style robes with Christ on her left and the other saints shown behind, Saint Sebastian portrayed in usual form with his wounds and Saint Jerome, on the left, holds a stone in his right hand, recalling his years of pentience as a hermit in the Syrian desert.

J.G. van Gelder (in 1934); bought by Agnew's from Mrs van Gelder on 13 February 1953; sold to Mrs Derek Fitzgerald, 19 March 1953; bought back, 29 October 1957; sold to Mrs Clifton, 29 January 1958; bought back 15 March 1966; sold to Sir John Heathcoat Amory (1894-1972) the same day; bequeathed to the Knightshayes Garden Trust by Sir John Heathcoat Amory in 1972.
