Oil painting on canvas, Milkmaids in a Welsh Landscape, possibly by George Barret the elder (1732-1784). Fitted overmantel, of a Welsh landscape. Introduced by the 2nd Lord Croft and may represent the countryside near Hafod. Cows milkmaids and a horseman under some trees by a road, left; a rtiver, right.
Provenance
Bought from Appleby Bros. by Lord Croft; loaned to the National Trust by Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft, 2nd Baron (1916-1997) around 1960; accepted by HM Government in Lieu of Inheritance Tax from the estate of Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft and allocated to the National Trust for display at Croft Castle in 2004.
