Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Herbert Lloyd, 1st Bt of Peterwell, Cardiganshire (1719 - 1769), circle of Johann Zoffany (1733-1810), inscribed on vase of the column: Sir Herbert Loyd Bart. A full-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator his left hand resting on some books on a table his right hand in the pocket of his waistcoat. He is in a powdered wig, and is wearing a scarlet coat, waistcoat and breeches, white stockings and dark shoes with silver buckles. There is a large pillar on a tall plinth inthe background to the left, with trees and sky beyond. On the right, slightly obscured by a blue/green gold fringed drape which falls from the top and drapes over the table on the right, is a row of books on shelves. He stands on a green carpet patterned with flowers.
