Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Holy Family with the Infant John the Baptist (after Maratta), attributed to Charles Lucy (London 1692 - ?Rome after 1758), 1760s. The infant cousins meet for the first time when they are both in Egypt. The Holy Family with a baby Jesus in the centre, standing on his mother’s knee looking towards the open book in her hands. An infant John the Baptist is standing at her feet with an arm resting on her knee. He holds a cross in one hand and is gazing directly at the spectator. Mary is seated, wearing a pink dress, draped in a white shawl. Joseph stands to her right with his arms crossed across his chest. He is looking towards to the book also. Framed in a carved giltwood Maratta frame.
