An early example of a Broadwood piano. This still functioning instrument is often played by one of our volunteers, on which occassions it can be heard throughout the house.
Summary
A square pianoforte inscribed on the maple-veneered nameboard ‘Johannes Broadwood, Londini Fecit, 1788 / Great Pulteney Street Golden Square’. The case and later stand are of mahogany, with the former inlaid with lines of boxwood or holly. The keyboard compass is FF - f '''. The piano is fitted with the English single action of Broadwood’s 1783 patent.
