Summary
Oil painting on panel, Erato, the Muse of Lyric and Love Poetry, Italian (Lombard?) School, circa 1800. Neo-classical en grisaille figure with Greek inscription. Neo-classical female figure dressed in classical robes holding a lyre in her left hand, on her left side, plucking the strings with her right hand, and standing on a plinth inscribed with Greek letters: СΡΑΤ ΤΑΛΤΡΙΑΝ.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
