Summary
Oil painting on panel, Thalia, the Muse of Comedy and Pastoral Poetry, Italian (? Lombard) School, circa 1800. Neo-classical en grisaille figure with Greek inscription. Neo-classical female figure dressed in classical robes, holding in her left hand a mask and in her right hand a whip or cane and standing on a plinth inscribed with Greek letters: ΘΑΛΣΙΛ. Λώ ΜΟΛΙΑΝ.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
