Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Colonel John Hopkins (d.1775), manner of David Morier (Berne 1705 – London 1770). Colonel Hopkins seated on a horse facing right, wearing a scarlet coat with gold frogging, a black tricorne hat edged with gold, and black thigh boots, he holds his drawn sword in his right hand. A mounted ADC is in background on the far left. Label on frame 'Commanded 1st Troop Horse Grenadiers, later 1st Life Guards, obiit 1775'.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
