Summary
Oil painting on panel, King Richard III (1452–1485), British (English) School, 1550-1620. A half-length portrait, turned slightly to right, gazing to right, left hand fingering ring on the little finger of right hand; wearing a black cap with a gold jewel with three pendant pearls worn above his right brow. Grey eyes, brown hair, clean-shaven. He wears a gold embroidered tunic under a black ermine-lined coat the open left lapel of which he holds with his right hand. On his right hand he wears a thumb ring and a further ring on his third finger. He also wears a solid gold-jewelled collar suspended from his shoulders. Inscribed 'Ricardo III'.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
