Summary
Oil painting on panel, King Edward IV (1442–1483), British (English) School, 1550-1620. An almost half-length portrait, three-quarters to right, gazing to right, clean-shaven face, brown hair falling to shoulders, wearing a dark cap with a jewel with three pendant pearls worn above right brow, gold embroidered surcoat, over dark under garment decorated with six horizontal small gold chains surmounted by rows of small pearls with five large pendant jewels; no hands visible; dark background; inscribed top left EDWARDVS IIII. Label on frame 'Edward IV 1442-1483 Son of Richard Duke of York'. Black frame with gilt edges.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
