Summary
Oil painting on panel, A London Bridge (Blackfriars) and St Paul's Cathedral, London by Daniel Turner (fl.1782 – 1817). One of 9 paintings in one frame. One of the most charming painters of numerous views in London, which are almost the only relics of a vanished career. In these he may be styled an urban miniaturist, his painting being of the smallest and neatest, faithful to every brick in a wall, yet so prettily coloured as to render them objects of art as well as of topographical interest. A little more quality, and Turner would have to be enrolled amongst the valuable Little Masters; view of Peterborough and Rouen Cathedrals, and some antiquities in Scotland are the only scenes done by him outside London, and these only in etching at which he was adept. Exhibited seven works ath the F.S., ten at the Royal Academy. Examples of his work in the Victoria & Albert Museum (1) and the Guildhall (1).
