Summary
A cedar, cypress and oak poker work cabinet on stand, North Italian, probably Alto Adige, late 17th century With ebonised mouldings and borders, with a pair of cupboard doors decorated with pokerwork with scenes of Adoration, Judgement of Solomon, Meeting of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba and enclosing a shelf and three shallow drawers. The borders with figures and flowers and a frieze centred by a heraldic device, raised on a stand with two drawers of ebony border, united by shaped crossed stretchers. See NT514382 in the collection at Anglesey Abbey for a chest from the same region of Northern Italy. Provenance: Bowring- Hanbury (?)
