Summary
Oil painting on panel (oval), Mr Welch by John Wright (c. 1760 - 1820). A half-length portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a powdered wig, brown coat, green and cream striped waistcoat and white cravat. Plain brown background. Inscribed with biographical details written in black ink on paper label pasted on reverse.
Provenance
Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Bequeathed to The National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by The National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
