Summary
Oil painting on panel, William Searle Benthall (1778-1854) and his Sister Elizabeth Benthall later Mrs Samuel Adams (1779-1848) by John Wright (c. 1760 - 1820). An oval double half-length portrait of two children. William on the left wearing a green sailor suit with white shirt, Elizabeth wearing a white dress with pink sash and holding a red flower. Inscribed with biographical details written in black ink on paper label pasted on reverse. 1782.
Provenance
Bequeathed to The National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by The National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
