Summary
Oil painting on panel (oval), Grace Searle, Mrs William Benthall (1744-1802) and her Son Thornton Benthall (1781-1844), by John Wright (c. 1760 - 1820), 1782. Oval. Half-length portrait of a young woman, seated, turned slightly to the left holding her young son. Wearing a blue dress, the child wearing a white dress with blue sash, each with flowers in their hands. Inscribed with biographical details written in black ink on paper label pasted on reverse.
Provenance
Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992); bequeathed to The National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by The National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
