Summary
Cover with moulded mushroom finial, the upper half of which is gilt, for sucrier of fluted form (on a separate record 509508.1). Printed in underglaze blue with 'Pagoda' pattern and associated scroll and butterfly border around cover. Encircling bands of gilt. Inscribed on the base with a printed “S” mark in blue, and an “X” of crossed swords (both Caughley marks. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
