Summary
Sucrier (sugar bowl with lid) of fluted form. Printed in underglaze blue with 'Temple' pattern and associated scale and floral border around inner rim and cover. Encircling bands of gilt. Inscribed on the base in blue is an “S” and a gilder’s number “6”. Printed on a gold label on the base is “CAUGHLEY BICENTENARY SHREWSBURY 1772-1972” along with a red circular label “122”. On a separate record is the cover with moulded mushroom knop (509504.2). Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
