Summary
Circular fluted saucer, the matching item to the tea bowl on separate record (509451.1). Item has a scalloped rim and raised on foot ring. Hand painted with unknown family crest contained in gilt medallion flanked set amongst foliate swags. Blue and gilt border around interior rim. Inscribed in the underglaze with a blue “S” printed on the underside. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
