Summary
Circular fluted tea bowl, scalloped rim and raised on foot ring. Hand painted with unknown family crest contained in gilt medallion flanked by gilt garlands. Comes complete with a matching saucer. Gilt butterfly to centre. Blue and gilt border around interior rim. Inscribed with a blue “S” in the underglaze on the underside of the tea bowl. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
