Summary
Coffee can saucer, the matching item to coffee can on separate record (509450.1). Item has a blue border overlaid with gilt festoons, encircling pattern of elongated daggers, series of overlapping loops within band of alternate arrow-heads and dots repeated on handle. Gilt spray to centre. Gilt edge. Inscribed in the underglaze with a blue “S” on the underside. On a separate gold label the following is printed; “CAUGHLEY BICENTENARY SHREWSBURY 1772-1972” and an additional red sticker is placed on top with the number “285” on it. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works.
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
