Summary
Coffee can, blue border overlaid with gilt festoons, encircling pattern of elongated daggers, series of overlapping loops within further band of alternate arrow-heads and dots repeated on handle and a gilt edge. Item comes complete with matching saucer on a separate record (509450.2). Inscribed in blue with an “S” in the underglaze on the underside of the can. Made circa 1775 - 1799 by Caughley Porcelain Works. .
Provenance
Made in Shropshire circa 1775 - 1799. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to the National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
