Summary
One of a set of six lead statues depicting ancient Greek and Roman figures; original to the house. A statue depicting Neptune, a male figure facing, standing with his right leg slightly bent. He has long hair, beard and wears a crown; he is naked except for a piece of cloth draped around his waist. His left arm rests by his side holding a trident with a wooden shaft, his right hand points downwards.
Provenance
Original to the house. This statue was either installed and supplied by Andries Carpentiere at the same time as the two on the East Front, which came to Lyme from London in 1732; or it was brought to Lyme by a wagon team from Bank Quay, nr Warrington, 25 miles away (taken from Lyme Park guide book, 2000 P.9) (see General Note).
