Summary
Lead, Meleager, Andrew Carpenter (c.1677 - London 1737), 1732. One of a set of six lead statues depicting ancient Greek and Roman figures; original to the house. A statue depicting Meleager, a male figure with head facing left and curled hair, naked except for a piece of cloth draped around his left shoulder. His left arm rests on top of a boar's head, which in turn is on top of a log. His right elbow is bent with his hand resting behind his back and a dog sits to his right. Probably once positioned elsewhere in the garden, as they do not fit the parapet wall correctly.
Provenance
Original to the house. This statue was installed above the lower parapet of the East Front and was probably supplied by Andries Carpentiere at the same time as two of those on the South Front, which came to Lyme from London in 1732. (taken from Lyme Park guide book, 2000 P.9)
