Summary
Print, line engraving, Lord William Russell (1639-1683) (after Sir Godfrey Kneller) by Jacobus Houbraken (Dordrecht 1698 - Amsterdam 1780). 1739. One of a set of ten engravings depicting notable seventeenth century figures. Half-length portrait in an oval; facing slightly right. Man with long curly wig wearing a lace necktie and dark cloak. Framed by a cartouche with scrolling fabric and an urn on a wall to the left. At the bottom, a cherub sits holding fabric with a severed head and axe inside. Inscribed with 'WILLIAM LORD RUSSEL'.
