Summary
Print, line engraving, Charles Mordaunt, 3rd Earl of Peterborough and 1st Earl of Monmouth (1658-1735) (after Sir Godfrey Kneller) by Jacobus Houbraken (Dordrecht 1698 - Amsterdam 1780). 1740. One of a set of ten engravings depicting notable seventeenth century figures. Half-length portrait in an oval; almost facing. Man with white curly wig wearing full suit of armour and plain lace necktie. Framed by a cartouche resembling a stone wall around the oval, a plinth underneath decorated with a hunting scene, flags rest on the top and a cherub holding a trumpet sits on the plinth. Inscribed with 'CHARLES MORDAUNT EARL OF PETERBOROUGH'.
