Summary
Print, line engraving, John Fisher (1469-1535) Bishop of Rochester (after Hans Holbein the younger) by Jacobus Houbraken (Dordrecht 1698 - Amsterdam 1780). 1740. One of a set of ten engravings depicting notable seventeenth century figures. Half-length portrait in an oval; looking right. Man wearing a tricorn hat, fur draped around his shoulders and religious clothing. Framed by a cartouche with a crown at the top and key either side with clouds behind. Below a bishop's hat, an urn and a severed head lies next to an axe; to the right, a cherub holds a hat. Inscribed with 'FISHER BISHOP OF ROCHESTER'.
