Summary
Print, line engraving, John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford (1486?-1555) (after Hans Holbein the younger) by Jacobus Houbraken (Dordrecht 1698 - Amsterdam 1780). 1738. One of a set of ten engravings depicting notable seventeenth century figures. Half-length portrait, in an oval; almost facing. Old man with long beard and moustache wearing flat black hat, a chain and a jacket. Framed by a cartouche decorated with a crown at the top, scrolling foliage, a helmet, anchor and feathers. A cherub stands in the bottom right corner. Inscribed with 'JOHN RUSSEL THE FIRST EARL OF BEDFORD. 1649'.
