Summary
Print, engraving, David Garrick (1717-1779) as 'Richard III' in William Shakespeare's 'Richard III' (after William Hogarth) by Thomas Cook (London 1744 - London 1818). A engraved portrait of a man balanced on an ottoman, leaning to the right; set in an exterior with a tent behind. Full-length portrait, he has curly hair, moustache and a small beard; he has an expression of distress on his face (?). Wearing Elizabethan costume consisting of a fur-lined coat, ruff and medal adorning his neck. He is holding his ringed right hand up in the air; his left hand is holding a sword hilt against the ottoman. Armour lies on the floor and in the background, three soldiers stand around a fire. An inscription reads 'M.r Garrick in the Character of Richard the III.d'; mounted within frame.
