Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Susanna Sanderson, Mrs Peter Vansittart (d.1725), British (English) School, late 17th century. Manner of Wissing. A three-quarter length portrait of a young woman, seated, facing, head slightly to right gazing at the spectator, brown hair dressed in curls at front, a long tress hanging over her right shoulder, wearing a red flowered wrap-over dress lined with striped cream silk, crossing at the front to form a V-neck, short sleves, a white chemise beneath, a jewel at her bosom, her left arm around a brown and white whippet on her lap, her right hand fingering the hair on her shoulder. Set in an interior, red velvet drapery behind her, on the left a pillar and landscape.
