Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Francis Legh (1686-1737), British (English) School, circa 1724. A three-quarter-length portrait of a middle-aged man, turned to right, head almost facing,in a powdered wig, with claret collarless jacket and white shirt with neckcloth. Standing in front of a balustrade to the right, in his right hand he holds a partially unfuled navigation chart for 'Margate Sands' (?), his left hand raised and pointing to a sailing ship of the fleet. On his left, a table with containers of quills, compass and folded piece of paper. This version generally has less detail and is smaller than the prime version.
