Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Francisca Posthuma Legh, Lady Brooke (b.1693/40) by John Michael Wright (1617-1694), circa 1683. A painted oval half-length portrait of a young woman, facing, head inclined slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, with red hair, curled and dressed with tresses falling on her shoulders, wearing a maroon, with touches of grey/blue on top, silk gown with décolletage and with chemise showing, the neck decorated with a band of jewels and pearls in gilt mounts, on her left shoulder a similar clasp holds a sash. She wears jewelled drop earrings and a short single-strand pearl necklace.
