Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Piers Legh X (1587/8-1624), British (English) School, 1600-1610. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, with light brown hair and moustache, wearing, tight fitting black doublet with capped shoulders, waisted and pointed front over full black hose. Plain white, linen collar and cuffs. Tooled sword belt and hanger with gilt clasps. His right hand rests on his hip with his knuckles and his left hand holds the pommel of his sword.
Provenance
This portrait of Peter Legh has remained with the Legh family and was loaned to the Lyme Hall by Lord Newton in 1948.
