Oil painting on canvas, Lady Anne Percy, Lady Stanhope (1633-1654) or Lady Isabella Sydney, Viscountess Strangford (d.1663) by Sir Peter Lely (Soest 1618 – London 1680), 1647/49. A three-quarter-length portrait, standing, three-quarters left wearing a blue dress with a puce scarf and with a spray of ivy in her right hand against a landscape background.
Provenance
By descent, until the death in 1952 of the 3rd Lord Leconfield, who had given Petworth to the National Trust in 1947, and whose nephew and heir, John Wyndham, 6th Lord Leconfield and 1st Lord Egremont (1920-72) arranged for the acceptance of the major portion of the collections at Petworth in lieu of death duties (the first ever such arrangement) in 1956 by H.M.Treasury. Relocated during December 2006 from Somerset Room, north wall, on the right-hand side of the door to the Oak Hall, top register
