Summary
Eight-day tavern clock in black japanned case, by Justin Vulliamy, London, c.1770 Single train, five-pillar movement with large diameter barrel and intermediate wheel to provide eight days duration. Anchor escapement and oval lead driving weight. Brass pendulum rod. 20” diameter white-painted dial with roman numerals and arabic quarters. Brass spade hands, the minute with counterpoise. Black japanned case with oak and pine carcass with gilt chinoiserie in relief on the trunk door and flat on the remainder of the trunk. Signed: “Just. Vulliamy / London” ingilt on the upper front of the trunk, below the dial. Access doors to left and right hand sides of the movement. Note: Although of the correct shape, the weight appears to be a recent replacement (the original would almost certainly have been brass-cased).
