Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Charity by Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), circa 1780. A mother, full face, gazing at the spectator, holding a child seated on a cushion; left, below, a child is reaching up to them. At right, standing full face, a little boy is drinking and at right there is a burning lamp. Apparently a pasticcio derived from Alessandro Allori's Judith in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence and Baroccio. In 1780 Reynolds was producing his designs for the window in New College Oxford and a Charity was among them.
