Summary
30 hour English lantern clock by Thomas Tue, King’s Lynn, c.1690. Two train, posted frame construction movement, with verge escapement with short pendulum swinging between trains, the pendulum having an ‘anchor’ type bob.. Count wheel hour-striking on bell. Chain driven by lead weight. The brass chapter ring has roman numerals and half hour markers and a single brass hand. Typical brass lantern clock case with urn finials and ball finial feet, the bell support surmounted with a matching urn finial. Note: The side doors, the weight and the hand are not original and the clock’s alarm mechanism is now entirely missing, including the original iron backplate (new iron backplate restored in 1985). The remains of the iron hoop are present on the top plate. The clock would also have had spurs on the iron backplate to steady the clock on the wall.
