This painting was copied from a photograph, which is still in the collection at Dyrham Park. The photograph shows Captain Blathwayt sitting on his horse outside a stable. The artist has added the landscape background. The portrait was painted in 1906, several years after Captain Blathwayt’s death in 1899.

Presumably commissioned by a member of the Blathwayt family in 1906; thence by descent; presumably acquired with Dyrham Park in 1956.
