Summary
Oil painting on canvas. A Cock and Turkey fighting, in a Park Setting, with other Fowl, by Melchior de Hondecoeter (Utrecht 1636 – Amsterdam 1695), signed M. D. Hondecoeter. A view of an ornamental garden in which a cock and turkey are fighting in the left foreground, in front of fragments of masonry. A hen with her chicks looks on at the right. Two cockerels stand on the masonry, at the top left, while a bird swoops down to the right. In the background ornamental birds gather in the grounds of the formal garden, including a peacock perched on a plinth, its tail hanging down to the ground.
