Caption
Anne Blathwayt was the daughter of William I Blathwayt (?1649–1717) and his wife Mary Wynter (1650–1691). Her father was responsible for transforming Dyrham Park, which he had inherited through his wife. Anne married the politician and government official Edward Southwell of King’s Weston (1671–1730) in 1716, but died after only a year of marriage.

Oil painting on canvas. Anne Blathwayt, Mrs Edward Southwell (1691-1717), by an artist of the English School, circa 1710 -17. A half-length portrait of the daughter of William I Blathwayt, who married Edward Southwell of Kings Weston in 1716. She is shown turned slightly to the right, with her head facing the viewer, in a pink dress over a white chemise, with a blue cloak billowing out behind her to the left.
Provenance
Presumably painted for William I Blathwayt (?1649-1717); thence by descent; Indigenous collection purchased by Ministry of Works in 1956 and given to Dyrham Park in 1961
