Caption
This view of Dyrham Park and St Peter’s church shows the west front of the house, designed by the French Huguenot architect, Samuel Hauduroy, and built between 1692 and 1694. William I Blathwayt (?1649-1717) inherited Dyrham Park through his wife, Mary Wynter, whom he married in 1686. One of the first things that he did after inheriting the property was to set about commissioning architects to transform and rebuild it. This painting of the west front of Dyrham Park and the adjoining 13th-century church was painted by Peter Lloyd-Jones as part of the National Trust’s ‘Foundation for Art’ scheme for contemporary artists.
