Full description
Barrel from a military musket, English, c1700. The barrel bears two makers marks. The first is that of Nathan Gregory, gunmaker of London (active 1677 – 1712), contractor to the Ordnance 1695 - 99. The second mark could be that of Humphrey Pickfatt Snr. (active 1650 – 1698), contractor to the Ordnance 1662 - 98, or Humphrey Pickfatt Jnr. (active 1681 –1738), contractor to the Ordnance 1689 - 1721. Iron barrel, formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech, then round to the muzzle, separated by a turned moulding. The muzzle has a blade fore-sight. The breech stamped with London Gunmakers Company proof marks and the makers mark, NG under a star, together with another makers mark, HP under a fleur-de-lys. The underside of the barrel stamped with the letter F and an unidentified mark. It has 3 barrel loops for attaching it to the stock.
