Full description
Military flintlock musket, English, c1690. The barrel bears the makers mark RT, probably Robert Tough (1661-1702) or his son, also Robert Tough (1702-15), both gunmakers and contractors to the Ordnance. The stock, although of the correct form, is a later replacement (modern ?). Iron barrel, formed in 3 stages, octagonal at the breech, then 16 sided and becoming round to the muzzle, and separated by a turned moulding. The muzzle has a blade fore-sight. The breech is stamped with London Gunmakers Company proof marks and the makers mark, RT under a crown. The barrel is retained to the stock by 3 barrel pins. The wooden ramrod is a replacement (modern ?). Length: 105.8cm Calibre: 20mm Later wooden full stock of correct form and profile. Brass furniture comprising; tacked on butt plate, trigger guard with blob finial and 2 ramrod pipes. There is a scroll tip trigger. Flintlock with a large flat plate. The flat broad cock has a ring neck and a dog-catch is fitted behind the cock; the flashpan is facetted and wide frizzen has a square top. The lock is retained to the stock by 1 sidenail (2 missing).
