Caption
St. Francis of Paola is shown kneeling in profile to the right. He is identified by his attribute, a sun with the letters ‘TAS’ visible (the final letters of the word ‘Charitas’). St. Anthony of Padua is shown standing to the left, reading his breviary. The sprig of lily on the steps is a symbol of purity, associated particularly with the Virgin Mary. This picture was copied after a version by Domenico’s father, Giambattista Tiepolo, to whom this picture was originally attributed.
