Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Brownlow 2nd Bt (1628- 1668) attributed to Henry Anderton (fl. c.1630 – after 1665). A three-quarter-length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator,, wearing a brown cloak and white shirt. His left arm is resting on a pedestal adorned with the relief of putti, holding a sword. He was the eldest surviving son of Sir William Brownlow 1st Bt (1595-1666) and Elizabeth Duncombe (1601-1666); married, in 1652, Elizabeth Freke (1634-1684) daughter of John Freke of Shroton and Jane Shirley. They lived at Ringston Hall, given to them by 'Old' Sir John Brownlow (1594-1679). Father of 'Young' Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Bt (1659-1697), the builder of Belton and Sir William Brownlow, 4th Bt (1665-1702).
