Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Ursula Woodcock, Lady Cust (1659-1683/4), manner of Gerard Soest (Soest c.1600 – London 1681). A half-length portrait of a young woman, in a grey dress and white bodice her right arm leaning on a table covered with a red cloth. Her cheek resting on her right hand. She was the only surviving child, and heiress of Edward Woodcock of Newtimber, Sussex. She married, on 21 August, 1678, Sir Pury Cust (1655-1698/9), son of Sir Richard Cust, 1st Bt (1622-1700) and Beatrice Pury (1623-1715). Her three children were: Sir Richard Cust, 2nd Bt (1680-1734), who married Anne Brownlow (1694-1779); Mary Cust (1679-1718), who married Captain Robert Thompson (1667/8-1711) and Ursula Cust (1683/4-1757), who married Richard Newton (d.1737).
