Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Young Man, possibly William Brownlow (1633-1675) or Sir Richard Brownlow, 2nd Bt (1628-1668) by Jonathan Richardson (1665-1745). Three-quarter length, in classical dress with white cravat, standing in a landscape, gesturing towards castles in the distance. William Brownlow of Snarford was the younger of the two surviving sons of Sir William Brownlow, 1st Bt (1595-1666) and Elizabeth Duncombe (1601-1666). He was left the family house in Holborn by his father and given the Snarford Estate by his uncle, 'Old' Sir John Brownlow (1594-1679). However, no portrait of him is recorded in the 18th century inventories, so this may be one of the missing portraits of his elder brother, Sir Richard Brownlow, 2nd Bt (1628-1668).
