Summary
Oil painting on canvas, John Cockayne (1641-1719) by Brian Birde (fl.1686), signed at the bottom of the cartouche: Brianus Birdeus Pinxit Anno: 86. Sculptured oval cartouche. Head and shoulders portrait of a mature man, head turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, in a long brown wig, wearing a classical brown costume and white lace jabot. Signed at the bottom of the cartouche: Brianus Birdeus Pinxit Anno: 86 John Cockayne of Cockayne Hatley, Bedfordshire; married in 1670, Elizabeth Cust, (1649-1739) the only surviving daughter of Sir Richard Cust (1622-1700) and Beatrice Pury (1623-1715)
