Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Cust, 1st Baronet Cust of Stamford (1622-1700), circle of Sir Peter Lely (Soest 1618 – London 1680). A painted oval half-length portrait of a mature man, long brown wig, bwearing a brown costume with white lace cravat and cuffs. Son of Samuel Cust and Ann Burrell, he was baptised on 23 June 1622 at Boston, Lincolnshire. He married Beatrice Pury (1623-1715), daughter of William Pury and Elizabeth Millett, on 29 December 1644. He was admitted to Inner Temple on 18 February 1640/41. He gained the rank of Captain on 31 December 1642 in the service of the trained bands in the Parliament Army. He MP for Lincolnshire in 1653 and Stamford 1679-1681). He was created 1st Baronet Cust, of Stamford on 29 September 1677. He died on 30 August 1700 at age 78 and was buried on 6 September 1700 at St George's Church, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England. His last will was dated 26 April 1699 and was probated on 2 December 1700.
