Summary
Vase, porcelain, round and of baluster shape (a globular body with a waisted foot surmounted by a narrow neck with a flaring rim), Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, 1720–30, decorated with flowers, rocks and pheasants in the Imari palette with underglaze blue and overglaze red and green enamels and gold.
Full description
The so-called Imari palette of underglaze blue combined with overglaze red and gold was developed by porcelain producers in Arita in Japan during the second half of the 17th century. Imari was the name of the nearby port via which the wares were exported. By the early 18th century the Imari style was being imitated by Chinese producers in Jingdezhen.
